it's not someone else's fault.
I see many articles about Britain wanting to rejoin the European Union. I am delighted about this. But people claim they were misled, and that is why they voted to leave. I see people in the US regretting their vote for Donald Trump, and they say they never knew it would be like this. All I can say is that, as a British citizen, I voted to remain in Europe and, later, becoming a US citizen, I voted against Trump. In both cases, it was blatantly obvious to me what the outcome would be. The truth is that Brexit and Trump votes result from the same thing… fear and hatred. It is complex and nuanced, but the main fear and hatred was that of immigrants and immigration, in both cases.
It is not easy, I understand. In a sense, I was fortunate… when I was eight years old my parents left the UK and moved to South Africa, we were immigrants. Years later I returned to the UK and was initially treated like an immigrant. I then moved to Spain and was, once again, an immigrant… but I was warmly welcomed. After several years I moved once more, to the US, and was, again, an immigrant, but I was warmly welcomed.
I have felt global and international love. On top of this, I have always pursued education and inclusion. I understand that people take advantage, people stretch the boundaries, but, overall, I have felt an overwhelming sense of love for all people and all countries with their unique perspectives and cultures.
Stop blaming others... choose peace, choose love. I know that we cannot simply exist in a state of peace and love, it is not how we evolved, but we don’t need to start unnecessary wars and bring so much pain and strife to so many people who are simply working hard and trying to make a better life for themselves. Immigration and travel are what make life beautiful. Diverse culture is a wonderful thing. Tolerance and inclusion are not just necessary; they make life wonderful.
And, as a final thought, Baby Boomers will always think they are the best negotiators. They are not. But they have simply been groomed to think that all younger generations are inferior and anything that veers from their traditional ideals (remote work, cloud technologies, AI) are intrinsically bad for all of mankind. Time to step down BB.
