blue
It feels like a miracle. To see Texas turn blue. To see so many places turn blue. It still seems incredible to see people upset about it. My only thought is that they are not used to anything being unifying, they don’t like unity. They only know war and fighting and competition. They want to win and, more importantly, they want to see people lose. So, when love wins, they are lost. When they only know TV adverts that say ‘liberal crime agenda’, they believe there is a criminal agenda, they don’t go and research what those crimes may be and discover that, in fact, there are none at all.
I took the day off in expectation of misery or a hangover from celebration. Thankfully, it is a hangover from celebration. I went book shopping, purchased Celeste Ng’s Little Fires Everywhere and then went to a bar for beer and pizza. The only way to deal with a hangover. I miss Cambridge, Massachusetts. Today would be a real feeling of celebration there. A common goal, a common hope, the desire for peace and freedom. Not a Top Gun freedom that ‘they’ think of, but a true freedom to be who and what you want to be… to be protected and cared for by your government (not with bombs and guns, but with investment in health and infrastructure and art and culture and science and environment.)
Stop trying to control… stop trying to block… stop trying to destroy. For once, think ‘How can I help? How can I contribute to making life better for everyone?’ Rather that ‘how can I prevent immigration? How can I make sure that people who are different to me suffer as much as possible?’
There is so much joy that is possible… art, exploring, learning, travelling, meeting people, understanding different cultures, helping people, forming community. These are the things you don’t want because the truth is that you want everyone else to be below you. And then you worship billionaires because they are your only heroes. It’s time for civilisation… if you can actually allow it, but you are so obsessed with ‘winning’ that now you are overwhelmed with a desire for revenge.
