avalanche

The rain pours as if an avalanche. Throughout the night it has rained without pause. It is relentless but beautiful after the heat. This morning it is still raining, but it is a gentle and consistent, tranquil and peaceful. For the first time in quite a while I have my windows open as well as the balcony door. I suspected that it was a long weekend in France… Tuesday is a holiday and, usually, the French take Monday off to make it a ‘bridge’ weekend. However, today, everyone was working. People think they can outwork AI.

As the afternoon rolls around, the weather is beautiful and calm, the sky is blue and it is 30 degrees Celsius, but no one goes to the pool because they were told it would rain. This is the fascinating thing about people; they typically do what they are told. Sorry, I am in Bukowski mode… low tolerance for nonsense. I have been reaching out for friendliness, for joy, for compassion, for connection… but people only want to know business. I suppose this is why people opt to avoid holiday and vacation as much as possible, they want to focus on ‘business’, ‘money’, ‘outworking AI’. I don’t know what it is, but I know the world needs more connection. And I don’t mean going to sit in an office and stare at a screen with your headphones on, I mean actually saying hello, asking how someone is, genuinely feeling compassion for our fellow animals (including humans). Why are we so terrified of vulnerability? Why are we so afraid of showing any sign of affection? Why do we see this as weakness?

I hope for a better future for us all. I hope that we can find tolerance and a sense of peace. But it is not easy to see this when we have such inequality, such greed, such fear, such pride… we have people shouting ‘communism’ and ‘socialism, when society tries to help those in desperate need. They prefer to see a society that elevates one individual to trillionaire status rather than a society in which the starving are fed.

                  Please let that sink in.
