Under a pale grey sky.
And, just like that, the cat reappears without a care in the world… as relaxed as ever… posing before a pale grey sky, awaiting sunrise. As we connect and crouch in each other’s company, a figure appears on the car park roof. He’s wearing headphones and looking down at us. It’s 6am. It’s something that I fail to understand. The building is equipped with a communal workspace, a community social space, a gym, a pool, it is surrounded by lakes and nature trails… but people ‘get their steps’ and take calls in the car park. Nevertheless, it makes me feel calm again to see the cat and know that she is safe and healthy.
The following morning rolls around and I have been up since 4am. That was when I gave up. I’d been sleeping on and off for a few hours and had, in fact, just woken from a dream in which I had found a baby blue whale in a wreckage and was taking it to my apartment, through flooding, to take care of it somehow (in the dream it was about 4 inches in size). The thought of how and what to feed it woke me up. I made some food for the cat, filled a bowl with fresh water and took a stroll outside to see if she was around. No sign of her, so I put the bowls down and come back inside. It’s incredibly warm outside. I check, it is 27C/80F just after 4am on the 14th of October.
And the morning thought haunting me, for some unknown reason, and out of nowhere, is that of the Vietnamese Canadian Neuroscientist that I dated in Boston in 2017/2018. I would love to see her again, to have a beer with her and talk to her about everything that has happened in our lives and to know how she is doing now.
